About us

Where Light Meets Digital - EFFECT Photonics is a highly vertically integrated, independent photonic semiconductor company addressing the need for high-performance, affordable optic solutions driven by the ever-increasing demand for bandwidth and faster data transfer capabilities. Our teams are made up of professional, highly skilled, energized, and enthusiastic people who share a passion for developing and creating high-volume, world-class solutions. We operate globally, and our teams work collaboratively to make EFFECT Photonics a very dynamic and rewarding place to work.

About the position

EFFECT Photonics is looking for an experienced – Principal Photonics Systems Control Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Photonics Systems Control Engineer with expertise in the control, calibration, and integration of tunable lasers and coherent photonics components to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, optimizing, and deploying control systems for complex photonics systems, ensuring precise operation and seamless integration of tunable lasers with coherent optical platforms.

This will require experience in the areas of control theory, semiconductor optical components and integration of algorithms into real-time embedded systems. The successful candidate will drive the definition of the functional architecture, perform detailed design/simulation and product verification of complex photonic control systems. The candidate will be comfortable working within a disciplined engineering organization, generating and maintaining proper engineering documentation.

Role responsibilities:

  • Control System Design: Develop control algorithms and methodologies tailored to the precise control and calibration of tunable lasers and coherent photonics components, including phase modulators, optical amplifiers, and photodetectors.
  • Calibration Procedures: Define and implement calibration procedures to characterize and optimize the performance of tunable lasers and coherent photonics subsystems, ensuring accuracy, stability, and reliability in diverse operating conditions.
  • System Integration: Collaborate closely with hardware and software teams to integrate control algorithms into embedded systems.
  • Performance Optimization: Analyze system performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement, such as linewidth, phase noise, and spectral purity, through iterative optimization of control algorithms and calibration procedures.
  • Stability Analysis: Conduct thorough stability analysis and robustness testing to validate control systems and ensure robust operation of tunable lasers and coherent photonics systems under environmental conditions.
  • Experimental Validation: Design and execute comprehensive experiments to validate control algorithms and calibration procedures, leveraging advanced test equipment and measurement techniques to validate system performance and reliability.
  • This position will require the individual to be on site at the EFFECT Photonics Maynard location.

About you

We want you to bring your expertise, experience, and passion for photonics control system design and development to the forefront of our organization, thus helping us to create a world class company with a world class reputation.
