Where Light Meets Digital - EFFECT Photonics is a highly vertically integrated, independent photonic semiconductor company addressing the need for high-performance, affordable optic solutions driven by the ever-increasing demand for bandwidth and faster data transfer capabilities. Our teams are made up of professional, highly skilled, energized, and enthusiastic people who share a passion for developing and creating high-volume, world-class solutions. We operate globally, with offices in The Netherlands, USA, UK and Taiwan and our teams work collaboratively to make EFFECT Photonics a very dynamic and rewarding place to work.

About the position

EFFECT Photonics is looking for an experienced – PIC Validation Engineer - R&D (Eindhoven, The Netherlands).

We are seeking an experienced engineer with knowledge of PIC validation to join our PIC & PDK Validation team within our world class R&D department in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. You will be responsible for the characterization of individual building blocks which make up EFFECT Photonics’ integrated PICs. Additionally, you will play a key role in testing integrated optical sub-assemblies, such as OSAs and ITLAs, used in optical telecommunications.

This requires a full understanding of the photonic building blocks that make up the PIC, but also of the optical and electrical equipment and software scripts that run the characterisation tests. Additionally, you will be responsible for characterizing and testing our integrated Optical Sub-Assemblies for applications in coherent modules and applications in Telecom and Datacom. Which has also high potential for use in areas of Lidar, Quantum, and Space. Our validation framework relies on automated test scripts, so proficiency in standard software languages is essential.

The responsibility of the PIC & PDK validation team is to validate and qualify the newest PIC designs on different performance and qualitative criteria in collaboration with the PIC Design and Foundry Process teams. These critical results drive future product developments. Our multi-disciplinary team comprises experts in optics, electronics, mechanics, software, and validation. Our core values include innovation, fostering a fun and energized environment, and promoting personal growth.

Role responsibilities

  • Validate Photonic Integrated Circuit Building Blocks and integrated full circuit designs.

  • Validate submodules on optical and electrical parameters.

  • Define and develop automation test scripts (C++ and Python).

  • Design and perform validation and reliability tests based on Telcordia requirements.

  • Contribute to the design and build of test setups in a team effort.

  • Participate in or lead RCA’s.
