About the position

EFFECT Photonics is looking for an experienced – Field Application Engineer for Global market.

We are seeking an experienced Field Application Engineer for the Global market. As an FAE, you act as a technical point of contact for customers, conducting product demonstrations and technical presentations to potential clients showcasing the capabilities and features of the company’s optical transceivers and components. In this role you will be responsible for providing technical support throughout the sales process, including pre-sales and post-sales activities. This position will work closely with customers and collaborate with sales, product managers and the engineering team. You will represent the customers within the company from product applications point of view in product specification and development. This role will be based out of our Maynard, MA location. Expected travel for this position is approximately 40%, mostly domestic with occasional travel to Europe. 

Role responsibilities:

  • Handle the first level of all technical matters from the customers including product discussions, trouble shooting, on-site debugging, FA, etc.
  • Work closely with Sales and Product managers, participate in industry conferences, trade shows, and other events to promote the company’s products and stay informed on the latest industry developments.
  • Create product demonstration setup for application testing and show case capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain product application technical documentation.
  • Support customer from technical assessment, feasibility validation, POC till product qualification.
  • Work with customer support team and actively engage with customers for technical support and problem solving.
  • Participate in the management of internal timelines and budgets.
  • Thorough understanding of customer’s application. Help internal engineering team to duplicate the application issues and perform failure analysis.
  • Collaborate with our product development team to provide feedback from customers and to help prioritize new features and enhancements, provide feedback on product performance, usability, and potential improvements.
  • Help develop customer relationships with customer’s technical team and help collect application information and market intelligence.


Job requirements

About you

We want you to bring your expertise, experience, and passion for optical communications systems, having optical network communication experience is a big plus. In the past, you have succeeded in working independently and remotely. You know how to interact with customers and create internal and external reports. You have proven to be able to document technical issues and solutions. Well-developed presentation and product demonstration ability.

Required / Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • B.S/MS/PhD. in Physical, Optical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • 5+ years’ experience in telecommunications, datacenter interconnects, optoelectronic systems, or microelectronics environments.
  • Familiar with Transceiver Forma Factors, ITU standards and MSA requirements related to high-speed optical transceivers.
  • Good working knowledge of optical networking protocols and products including coding, network equipment configuration, and optical communication.
  • Familiar with Optical equipment related to OSNR, BER, Polarization, FEC, Power and Wavelength testing.
  • Good communication and demonstration skills, able to work effectively with customers and internal teams.
  • Organized, resourceful, capable of working autonomously managing multiple priorities.
  • Able to think creatively and find innovative solutions to technical challenges.
  • Able to cooperate in a global matrix organization /multi -site matrixed environment.
  • Candidate will be required to spend majority of time in Maynard, Massachusetts location.
